Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns Demo
Survive in the harsh realm of Khaldum and help the Kohan find the secrets behind their unusual powers #Immortal Sovereigns #Real-time strategy #Strategy game #Kohan #Sovereign #RTS
Ever since WarCraft set the pace for the fantasy-RTS genre, every title that came out borrowed a few elements from it, because strategy fans expect the games to evolve in a certain matter nowadays. However, there are unique game out there as well, which refuse to bow their head to the giants and do their own thing instead, regardless of whether that’s a good thing or a bad one.
While Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns is not a true real-time strategy game, given the fact that it has some turn-based mechanics supporting the gameplay as well, it comes pretty close to what a good RTS should look like. Not only that, but it is packed with original ideas and a completely new setting for you to explore and learn more about.
As it happens, the game tells the story of realm called Khaldum, where a race of powerful and immortal beings called Kohan happen to live. However, a few cataclysms have all but wiped them out from existence, at least until their restless spirits start waking up from the grave once more. Hence, your purpose throughout the game is to find out the secrets of this race and help them reach peace.
Unlike classic games like WarCraft or even Age of Empires, Kohan replaces single units with entire divisions, which makes the combat a lot less stressful. Not only that, but you also get to be a tad more strategic during the battles, instead of having to micromanage every individual on the battlefield. On the other hand, the battles aren’t easy either, so you’ll definitely have a challenge on your hands.
There are no resources to gather either, which leaves you yet more free time to think about the bigger picture and deal with the enemies. The graphics are marvelous and you quickly get over the fact that they are isometric, thanks to all the detail that went into the level design. A multiplayer mode is also included, with the possibility to generate a random map every time.
Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns may have taken its inspiration from the classics, but it came out rather unique and special on the other hand. Hence, if you are interested in a new experience in the genre and you have grown tired of the same old setting all over again, this might do the trick instead.
