Solitaire may have very basic rules and gameplay mechanics, but that doesn’t mean it is immune to improvements and new ideas. As such, there are thousands of variations out there, each one of which can be the right choice for a particular niche of players. Depending on whether you want to relax or take on a challenge, the rules change from variant to variant.
Knight Solitaire 3 is a card game that allows you to tackle a variety of puzzles designed to be solved using the classic Solitaire rules. However, there is also an extra layer of fantasy on top, which means that you play the role of a brave knight trying to save a princess. It doesn’t actually affect the gameplay in any way, but it’s something to keep in mind while you shuffle the cards.
Speaking of which, the story is not very complicated, and it actually only makes an appearance every now and again, basically to remind you that there is a plot in the background. As such, your main task is to open some enchanted doors and reach the princess trapped in the tower. Naturally, there’s a long list of things you have to do in order to unlock the doors, and they are represented using over one hundred game levels.
Each level is characterized by a different layout when it comes to how the cards are arranged. Since your task is to find special cards in the decks, it is mighty important that you pay attention to the stacks, otherwise you might choose wrong and miss the cards you need. It is a bit chaotic and based on luck, which is why frustration can kick in rather quickly.
Thankfully, at least the visual design is decent, even if there’s not much going on on the screen most of the time. Besides the cards and a background image that’s not very detailed anyway, you only get to look at the basic user interface, which holds a few buttons and an area to display how much gold you have managed to gain. The soundtrack is pretty decent as well, as long as you do not have to listen to it over extended periods of time.
In the end, Knight Solitaire 3 has more than enough content to provide you with a distraction whenever you need it. The fact that you often need a lot of luck in order to pass the levels is infuriating sometimes, but you can still have a lot of fun with the game under the right circumstances.
