Just Duck It! Demo

Reflex-based games can turn out either incredibly fun, or incredibly frustrating. Even the latter can have a decent fan base, because gamers love to challenge themselves with seemingly impossible tasks. However, a combination of the two elements should yield fantastic results, although very few games have managed to get the recipe just right.

Just Duck It! is a challenging game in which you have to help a duck get to safety by hopping from one place to the other, while also avoiding all sorts of enemies and traps. The formula sounds quite simple when you think about it, especially since the duck can only move in fixed increments from lane to lane, but once you start playing, it becomes a lot more fun.

The duck can move either vertically or horizontally, so you have the freedom to approach the levels as you see fit. Granted, sections require you to follow a specific path, but the rest of the stage is open to exploration and experimentation. The traps have specific routines you have to watch out for, while the enemies have movement patterns you can study.

In case you are finding the game too easy, you can activate the hardcore mode once you manage to complete the third level on normal. By doing so, you are also activating a timer that prevents you from staying still for too long. Hence, you either move constantly or die, which means that you have to analyze each situation on the fly, without any pauses.

Finally, the graphics are quite simple and to the point, since neither the main character nor the enemies have any animations. The colorful levels make the experience more jolly, on the other hand, as well as easier to keep smiling when you are dying every other minute. Even the sound effects are amusing, although they can get pretty repetitive after a while.

Although it lacks content at the moment, Just Duck It! is fun enough to be developed further. With a balanced difficulty curve and more levels, the game has the potential to evolve into something much better.
