Infinite Adventures Demo
Kill your way into and out of endless dungeons in this old-school first-person dungeon crawler with turn-based combat #Dungeon crawler #Role-playing game #Turn-based combat #Dungeon #Crawler #Role-play
Dungeon crawlers are pretty much a thing of the past, because the current trend in RPGs leans toward story-driven experiences and total freedom in regards to exploration. While games like Wizardry and Might & Magic had great stories as well, the combat was a very important aspect, because the encounters were numerous and very difficult, especially if you were not familiar with the mechanics.
Infinite Adventures is a classic dungeon crawler with turn-based gameplay mechanics, featuring good old gray tunnels for you to explore and loot. There not much else to it, other than the usual story about the world being in danger. Your task is to kill monsters and get rich while you are at it, by going on treasure hunts and challenging the biggest creatures out in the wild.
In case you are not familiar with how classic dungeon crawlers work, the basic idea is that you are in control of a group of adventurers, and you must cleverly combine their skills in each fight to come out victorious. The combat takes place in turns, which means that each character and critter gets his, her, or its turn to make a move, be it a melee attack or a powerful spell.
The whole idea about having an entire party under your control is to use their skills together when the situation requires it. It may be a bit of a shock in the beginning, since it’s a lot more work than a modern RPG where the AI usually takes care of the teammates, but it’s definitely worth the extra effort. Each battle is unique, and as long as you are aware of what everyone is capable of, things go pretty smoothly in most cases.
As mentioned before, you often find yourself exploring intricate dungeons crawling with goblins and various other monsters. In here, the perspective changes to a first-person one, and you are free to move around wherever you see fit. There are some limitations in this regard, such as the fact that you cannot actually see the monsters. Thus, each encounter is more or less random or caused by a trigger, which is a bit annoying.
While there’s certainly a lot left to be done with Infinite Adventures, it’s nice to see something different for a change, especially in the RPG department. With enough dedication from the developers, this could really turn into something special, at least if the story is worth it as well.
