Indivisible Demo
Go on a dangerous adventure and fight the good fight alongside a handful of likable characters in this Metroidvania platformer with RPG elements #Role-playing game #Metroidvania platformer #Anime RPG #Metroid #Castlevania #Platformer
Sidescrolling platformers are about as popular today as they were back in their prime, even if technology has long surpassed the 2D limitations of old consoles. People seem to really dig the format, which is why indie developers from all over the world are releasing game after game, some of which receive critical acclaim and quite the hefty financial support from the fans.
Indivisible is nothing special if you choose to look at it objectively, mainly because it outright tells you that it’s heavily inspired by classics like Metroid and Valkyrie Profile. That’s no cause for concern, on the other hand, especially if you are familiar with the said games. In fact, it’s a sure hit with the crowds, as long as the developers stay true to the genre and manage to recreate the same atmosphere, while also bringing their own original ideas to the mix.
The game’s story revolves around a young girl by the name of Ajna, the daughter of a guardian. She lives in a rather small and sheltered village, which can no longer contain her desire to explore the world and see what’s out there. As soon as she finds out about some kind of magic power within herself, she sets off on a lengthy quest, together with a few other brave souls that join her along the way.
Although the core gameplay is very much like in every other platformer out there, meaning that you jump around and run from the left side of the screen to the right, things get interesting once one or more foes enter the picture. The combat system is sort of turn-based, but much more active and hands-on than usual. Each character gets to attack when his turn comes, but you have to move quickly, otherwise the turn is lost. You can also attack in a variety of ways by holding different keys.
Speaking of which, a controller is highly recommended to be able to enjoy the game properly, as you are instructed by the welcoming screen. You can map the buttons on a keyboard and enjoy it like that as well, so it’s not mandatory. The graphics may look like they belong in a different era, but the actual artwork is sublime. The animations are top-notch as well, giving you plenty to look at while exploring or fighting.
Indivisible is merely a prototype as of right now, but everything is more than convincing so far. The game is well refined, the gameplay is tight and rewarding, and the combat system is as challenging as it should be to make the experience enjoyable. Thus, it definitely deserves a try from every fan of the genre.
Note: You can help the developers make Indivisible a reality by supporting their IndieGoGo campaign.
