HyperTankz Demo
Avoid the enemy missiles, collect the flags and try to stay alive in this arcade shooter in which you control a tank #Arcade shooter #Collect flags #Hover tank #Hyper #Tankz #Tank
Simple arcade games can make the difference between a boring afternoon and a few hours of captivating fun, since it doesn’t take much to make a gamer forget his ways. However, something must click in order for that to happen, since not just any kind of generic arcade flick can have the same effect and certainly not many of them are worthy to lose a few hours with.
HyperTankz does not really manage to bring anything exciting to the table, since it is pretty fad and devoid of any real content or challenge to make the effort worthwhile. However, you can give it a try and attempt to have some fun with it, since the mechanics are somewhat interesting and you can at least check out the different game modes in order to make an informed opinion on the overall product.
Unfinished is probably a bit too harsh - albeit completely true - for a demo, since this is obviously not the complete product and it may evolve in a variety of ways until and if it ever gets released. However, you cannot actually tell what that is going to be like, because the demo at hand is almost empty and way too simple to carry any weight when it comes to gameplay, or even tell a story, for that matter.
The main goal is for you to collect as many flags as possible in a certain amount of time, by driving over them with your futuristic tank. However, enemy tanks and static turrets are constantly shooting at you in order to stop you from going further, which is annoying to say the least. On the other hand, you are equipped with weapons as well, so that you can fight back and destroy your enemies.
Additional ammo and a few other power-ups can be picked up as you go along, as well as hitpoint restorers. Moreover, there are also force fields which help you perform daring vertical jumps and reach the higher platforms, where the flags are located. The graphics are good and they could probably hold a lot of detail, but the game world is barren and devoid of anything that could tell you more about the capabilities of the engine.
In the end, HyperTankz may have some interesting ideas going for itself, but the execution is rather poor as of now. With a bit of dedication, however, the interesting mechanics can be turned into something quite attractive, as long as the controls are polished and a few more exciting gameplay modes are added in the meantime.
