Manage a hotel where all sorts of weird creatures drop by and make sure every guest is taken care of #Visual novel #Role-playing game #Adventure game #Hotel #Sim #Simulator
Working directly with customers on a daily basis is far from an enjoyable experience, especially if you are directly responsible for their happiness. People do not treat other people nicely if they are spending money or trying to have a good time, which is why hotel and retail workers have such a hard time with their jobs. However, it’s never a bad idea to be as nice as possible to your customers, because it’s harder for them to complain.
Hotel Simulator is a fairly interesting visual novel/role-playing game mashup in which you play the role of someone who is lucky enough to receive a lodge from some mysterious benefactors. However, your luck turns sour when you have to work very hard in order to keep the establishment from going bankrupt, since it takes a lot of effort to please every customer that comes in.
The game starts with a short tutorial that aims to familiarize you with the interface and the controls, although everything is quite simple to figure out. Hence, you can talk with your guests, provide them with special services to make them tip well, as well as purchase various items with the money you make. Granted, the game is rather empty at the moment, so it lacks a lot of options.
Each guest that comes to stay at your hotel has different expectations, as well as various special requirements that can be fulfilled if you want to squeeze more money out of them. Thus, the eccentric rock guitarist would appreciate some food for his exotic bird, while the fancy man in a nice suit is easily impressed by lies regarding the hotel’s heritage.
There are all sorts of interesting guests to meet and even fantastical creatures, given the fact that the hotel also features a portal to other dimensions. Speaking of which, the artwork is a bit too simple and disappointing, not to mention that the character design is far from consistent. On the other hand, this is a one-man project with purchased art assets, so it’s not that surprising.
In the end, Hotel Simulator underlying idea is not bad, but the execution is terrible. Hence, it needs a lot more work before it even resembles an actual game, not to mention the sloppy artwork and lack of content.
