Holden Demo

Who doesn’t want to play as a 14-year old teenager that battles robots and who’s trying to save the world? This is the story of Holden, a third person shooter that’s being developed right now. It’s not all that impressive, at least if we take a look at the demo, but the game shows promise, and it might get better in the future.

Many developers are using the Unity engine nowadays, and it seems to be a very accessible and easy to adopt the solution. It can be used to make bad games, but we’ve seen the engine do some incredible things, so we remain open to the possibility that Holden might turn our OK.

For now, we only have some screenshots from a more complete game and the promise of the developer to show us more in the coming months. Since this is not really a proper demo, we can only hope that things will get better in the next versions. In fact, this is the reason the demo was released, so that he can get some input from the players.

There is only one room, and you’re attacked by a giant robot. You need to kill it before he kills you. The ammo is not enough to get the job done, and you’ll have to run around to get more. 

The robot has two main weapons, a sort of a shotgun and a laser. Neither the character or the has a life meter, so you can’t know how long the battle will take. We do however have an estimate and that number if about 80 bullets. If you hit it every time, it should go down after 80 shots.

In an OK concept, but, for now, it’s clumsy and poorly executed. Maybe the developer is working on the animations and on level design so that he can launch a full demo that can be better appreciated.
