HitBox Demo
Frag as many enemies as possible in this low-poly FPS with a handful of multiplayer modes and different classes to choose from #Multiplayer FPS #Online shooter #First-person shooter #Shooter #FPS #Multiplayer
It’s tough to come up with new ideas in a genre as popular as multiplayer FPS, given the fact that there are hundreds of games out there, and many more are released every month. Thus, you really need to offer something unique in order to attract players, otherwise your game ends up buried under a very big pile of shovelware, even if you worked hard on it.
HitBox is a new multiplayer first-person shooter that changes things up a bit when it comes to pace and level design, but doesn’t actually offer any groundbreaking mechanics. However, the fact that you have to watch out for environmental traps while dealing with enemy troops is a welcomed variation on an old theme, and there are also multiple character classes to choose from.
There are a few interesting game modes to choose from as well, although they are by no means original. They include King of the Hill, Team Deathmatch and a few other classics, although none of them are particularly intriguing. However, the maps are another story entirely, because they are full of traps and other contraptions that make it difficult to stay alive even when no one is actively shooting at you.
It’s also worth noting that the gameplay changes depending on the character class you choose at the start of each match. Each class has certain attributes you can examine, including damage, accuracy and speed, so your role in the team changes depending on these stats. It would be even nicer if these stats could be improved somehow, but that is not the case here.
Lastly, the low-poly graphics make the action feel more light-hearted than most shooters, but the actual visual quality is quite decent, given the fact that the game uses Unreal Engine 4. Hence, the lighting is great, and the environments look nice even if they do not feature any textures. It’s obviously a bit difficult to spot players sometimes, but you can get used to this after a while.
In the end, HitBox is far from revolutionary, but the action is fast-paced and enjoyable enough to keep you engaged at first. Moreover, the environmental challenges make the whole thing even more fun, at least until they get repetitive and annoying.
