Hidden Expedition: The Eternal Emperor is a hidden object adventure game in which you have to solve a mystery and do your best to save a few friends from grave danger at the same time. While it may not feature any groundbreaking innovations when it comes to gameplay mechanics, at least it features a pretty interesting tale, plus a few engaging puzzles to keep you busy.

To begin with, the story starts with the main character and a crew of archaeologists at the entrance to Qin’s final resting place. Naturally, something goes terribly wrong after they manage to get in and your friends are in dire need of rescue. However, you cannot miss the opportunity to investigate the tomb either, which is why the journey is so exciting.

As you might expect, most of your time is spent examining the environments in order to notice items that might come in handy later on. It’s a bit of a bummer that you can only pick those objects that have some sort of purpose, which means that the whole experience is very scripted and linear. Thankfully, at least there are puzzles to diversify the experience, and these puzzles can be quite challenging.

The graphics are standard for the genre, which means that they are hand-drawn and very detailed, although you cannot move at all and you have to observe everything from a fixed position. On the other hand, this means that it’s a lot easier to orientate yourself and avoid getting lost along the way.

At the end of the day, Hidden Expedition: The Eternal Emperor may not try very hard to add new things to a decade-old formula, but at least it’s very polished and enjoyable.
