Every part of the world has its own history and mythology, dating back to hundreds or even thousands of years in the past. It would seem like people were much more interested in the origin of every single thing in the world, including themselves, which is why they created stories about how the world came to be, or how the first humans were created.
Hidden Expedition: Midgard's End is a hidden object adventure game in which you play the role of an H.E.L.P. agent sent on a special mission after someone steals an ancient artifact from the academy. Naturally, it helps if you are familiar with the previous entries in the series, but it’s not necessary in order to have fun with this episode. On the other hand, the story might make more sense if you know what to expect.
As such, it all starts at a lecture about ancient artifacts, where your character plays the role of an assistant in charge of handling the demonstrative part. All of a sudden, someone knocks everyone out with gas in order to sneak into the room and steal one of the artifacts. Hence, you are tasked with apprehending the responsible and return the item, while also finding out what the thief was planning to do with it.
In case you are not familiar with HOPAs, the gameplay formula is pretty straightforward and it can be learned in a matter of minutes. Thus, your goal is to examine every scene and try to discover every useful item in them. Some of these objects can then be combined to unlock doors or open contains, which contain other useful items and so on. It can get repetitive after a point, but there’s some variety in there as well.
Puzzles are a great distraction, because they can really put your mind to work until you are able to figure them out. Most of these puzzles are pretty similar as well, but their distribution throughout the story is even enough for them not to become very repetitive. The environments are constantly changing, which keeps the experience fresh and enjoyable.
In the end, Hidden Expedition: Midgard's End should be a blessing for the fans of the franchise, but even those who are not familiar with it can have tons of fun with the game. There’s a lot of action involved as well, which is pretty nice for a hidden object game.
