HexaMon Demo
Move tiny monsters around the board and perform as many matches as possible in this addictive puzzle game #Match three #Puzzle game #Arcade game #Arcade #Puzzle #Match-3
It’s not easy to innovate the match-three genre nowadays, especially when hundreds of games are being released every year. However, the mechanics can be tweaked and improved in many ways, and even the oldest ideas can be reinvigorated with enough creativity. Challenging levels are always great at helping you have a good time.
HexaMon is an upcoming match-three game with interesting gameplay mechanics, in which the rules are a tad more complex and engaging than usual. Hence, although you can start playing right away and have no trouble understanding the mechanics, it takes quite a bit of effort to score any points. The game is not complete at this point, but the developers are definitely on the right track.
The goal is to keep the board from getting full, and to do that you have to move monsters around in order to get at least three of them together. Once they combine they evolve into a new color, and they also reward you with more points depending on how advanced they are. It gets very difficult to keep the board clean after a while, especially since you cannot switch tiles like in a classic match-three game.
The demo contains a single level, which is a bit disappointing, but then again the gameplay is engaging enough for you to forget that. It’s also worth noting that new monsters appear on the board after every move, and their position is usually random. This adds too much guesswork to the formula, which can make things a tad too uncertain sometimes, not to mention frustrating.
As far as the graphics are concerned, there’s not a lot to talk about at the moment, mainly because there’s nothing to see except for the monsters and a very general background. Things are bound to be improved in the final version, but then again this matters very little in the genre anyway. It would also be nice to be able to swap tiles, because in its current form, the game can be a tad too frustrating sometimes.
HexaMon may be a tad too frustrating and annoying sometimes, but it has the right ideas in terms of gameplay. Hence, you can help the developers by participating in the Kickstarter campaign and speeding up the development process.
