Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East Demo

Although it didn’t manage to make too much of an impression when it was first released, the fifth episode in the Heroes of Might and Magic saga was certainly not a bad game. It lacked the depth of the first titles in the series and it dumbed down too many things to make it a cult classic, but the overall gameplay mechanics were strong and everyone could see that a small part of Heroes 3 still lived inside.

Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East is an expansion pack developed in order to improve the original game from every aspect, while also adding a lot of new content to provide the players with more scenarios and campaigns to enjoy. Not only that, but the gameplay itself has been refined, polished, and balanced, in order to make the experience that much more pleasant and enjoyable.

In essence, the biggest change is represented by the introduction of a new faction, namely the orcs and their capital, the Stronghold. While this is not really an entirely new addition to the franchise, it should be enough to please those who wanted something new to play with. Hence, you can yet again see the might of centaurs, wyverns and cyclopes on the battlefield, while also taking advantage of the special Blood Rage skill.

The developers tried to make the interface a bit more intuitive and easy-to-use for everyone, which is why many gimmicks have been simplified, while others have been removed entirely. A lot of these changes affect the combat as well, because some of the features got modified in order to make spell casting much simpler. Giving specific commands to your units is also a tad easier, although older players can still rely on muscle memory alone to get through some of the battles.

As far as the technical aspect is concerned, the changes are not very visible when it comes to the graphics engine. Obviously, the new environments are very detailed and fun to explore, but the actual technology behind the engine has barely changed at all. The soundtrack is new, on the other hand, and it features atmospheric tracks to keep you on edge at all times.

Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East is almost exactly what the series needed, although the amount of new content is still not enough. However, the gameplay improvements should make everyone happy, especially when it comes to new players that want to get into the game but they find it too complicated.
