Crazy ideas can sometimes yield extraordinary results, even if they do not make sense at all. Hence, there are plenty of video games out there that gave up on common sense and decided to create their own ideas regarding reality. However, that doesn’t mean developers can get away with anything if they choose this path, because there are still plenty of guidelines that need to be followed in other regards.
Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit summarizes its central idea right in the title, because that’s exactly what you’ll experience throughout the game. Hence, the main character happens to be some kind of prince in Hell, when someone decides to play a prank on him and post some of his least flattering pictures online. As such, the rabbit decides to seek revenge on everyone who he thinks might responsible, which is basically everyone in hell.
Story-wise, not a lot of details are given, but the intrigue and the occasional intermissions should be enough for you to make an idea about what’s going on. In essence, the entire emphasis is put on the gameplay, which is just as gory, bloody, and explosive as you imagine. In fact, barely a second goes by without some kind of fluid being splattered somewhere on the screen.
The rabbit can make use of a variety of gory weapons, all of which are very fun to put into practice. On the other hand, regardless of how amusing they might be, the trick gets old after a while, especially if you see it on a regular basis. Not only that, but the mechanics are also quite simple and there’s not much of a challenge involved, which yet again results in early onset boredom.
Thankfully, the graphic design is sublime and it really has the power to make you get over the repetition every once in a while. Naturally, blood and guts are constantly flying left and right, so don’t let the fact that you play as a bunny fool you into thinking that this is safe for small children. The soundtrack is also quite decent, at least until you get used to it as well.
All things considered, Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit tried pretty hard to appear special, and it almost achieved it. However, it seems to have run out of ideas somewhere in the beginning, because things get repetitive and boring quite quickly.
