Hegemony: Philip of Macedon Demo
Lay siege to the greatest ancient cities and experience the rise of the great Philip of Macedon #Philip of Macedon #Alexander the Great #Real-time strategy #Hegemony #Philip #Macedon
Back in the era of Alexander the Great and other such great leaders, war was a regular occurrence and men were expected to know how to handle a sword, or a spear. Kingdoms were rising and falling, while the great empires were just beginning to shape. However, the most important factor in all of this was strategy, because ingenious tactics had the potential to overpower almost any army, or any kind of walls.
Hegemony: Philip of Macedon presents the events that transpired back in antiquity, more precisely before the birth of the legendary Alexander the Great. The focus is on Alexander’s father, Philip of Macedon, who took it upon himself to save Macedonia and make it a force not to be trifled with. As such, his campaigns are quite famous and he did manage to accomplish a great deal, which only made it easier for his son to go on and build one of the biggest empires the world has ever seen.
The game is a real-time strategy with a pause function and an emphasis on tactics, rather than unit micromanagement. Hence, you must look over multiple cities at the same time, while using your troops to lay siege to enemy castles. The units themselves are actually entire divisions and they act as such, so you cannot select individual members, or focus on making them stronger.
As far as resources go, you basically just need to worry about food, which can be acquired by capturing the nearby farms. However, in order for the food to be transported between the two and the farm, you need to connect the two first. Moreover, it is also possible to connect two cities as well, in order to increase your income and create additional routes for the food carts.
From a technical point of view, the game does not impress through visual acuity, but it doesn’t look terrible either. The maps are quite big and detailed, while the units are nicely modeled to come as close to the real thing as possible. The interface is really impressive, on the other hand, because it is easy-to-use and it comes with a plethora of functions that can make your job simpler.
In the end, Hegemony: Philip of Macedon deserves a shot from every strategy fan, because it features almost everything one might want from the genre: plenty of tactics, large maps, interesting campaigns, and a variety of smaller gimmicks that can be used to personalize your experience.
