Haunted Train: Clashing Worlds

Supernatural events make for great movie and video game stories, because it’s quite thrilling to hunt for ghosts and spirits when there’s nothing to actually put your safety in danger. However, some of the stories can be rather similar and repetitive, making it difficult to find something original. On the other hand, it’s the experience that matters most of the time.

Haunted Train: Clashing Worlds is a hidden object adventure game in which you play the role of an investigator trying to unravel a mystery concerning a weird phenomenon that caused a disaster. On the other hand, the game is more or less a classic HOPA, meaning that there are no new gameplay mechanics and very few interesting types of puzzles to tackle along the way.

To begin with, your character starts having some visions of another dimension populated by hideous creatures, and the goal is to stop them before they can overtake the real world. You can use a special artifact to close interdimensional holes throughout your journey, but other obstacles make an appearance as well. It’s a pretty exciting scenario, but it’s far from original.

A mouse is all you need in order to solve the puzzles and interact with the game world, but you can still get a lot done this way. Each scene features a couple of areas of interest which can be investigated closer, and each one of them has at least one item that can be picked up and used later on. Obviously, this gets repetitive after a while, but the challenge keeps you going.

Actual puzzles make an appearance every once in awhile as well, but they are not very difficult, since all you need to do is figure out a pattern or match certain symbols. Speaking of which, the graphics are about as nice as can be expected of a HOPA, which means that the static landscapes are very detailed and full of interesting objects.

Even if Haunted Train: Clashing Worlds doesn’t innovate the genre or provide you with anything you haven’t seen before, the game is still quite fun, not to mention the fact that it keeps you engaged with the supernatural mystery. Hence, it’s certainly worth a try from every hidden object fan out there.
