Mysterious murderers always captured the attention of the public for some reason, especially those who had unusual signatures or MOs. Granted, most of them ended up being caught, but there are some who managed to elude the authorities until the end. In fact, some of the investigators become famous as well, thanks to their ability to follow the clues and unmask the suspects.

Haunted Legends: The Iron Mask is a hidden object adventure game that takes place in France in the 17th century, which means that it features musketeers and all the other representative concepts from that period. However, the rest of the game is not that different from every other release in the genre, especially when it comes to the puzzles and the hidden object sequences.

As for the story, it all revolves around a dangerous murderer with an iron mask, who terrorizes France with his killings and no one seems able to stop him. Naturally, you play the role of the man who must put an end to his spree, but the task is much tougher than it sounds. Hence, Louis XIV hires you to investigate the case and maybe pinpoint a suspect to end the murders once and for all.

As mentioned before, there’s very little originality when it comes to the gameplay mechanics, because it’s just a succession of hidden object scenes and simple puzzles that require you to move things around to unlock a door or a box. It gets repetitive and annoying after a while, but at least the game keeps providing you with new locations and environments to explore.

Speaking of which, the graphics quality is more than decent, especially for a 2D point & click game. As such, every scene is hand drawn with as much detail as possible, which helps a lot with immersion and the overall atmosphere. A few other components contribute to this as well, such as the voice acting and the soundtrack, which complete the experience.

Even if it fails to bring anything new to the table, Haunted Legends: The Iron Mask is still more than capable to keep you entertained until the end of the story. Not only that, but the setting is interesting enough to make you forget about everything else in the meantime.
