Baseball is still one of the most popular sports in the United States, although it is played all over the world and there are plenty of international championships out there. The MLB is where the greatest stars come together, however, not to mention the fact that the players who manage to play for a top team receive a more than generous salary for their talents.

HardBall 6 is part of a pretty successful series and it aims to present you with a realistic depiction of the sport, while also allowing you to carefully set up the greatest matches ever seen. Thanks to the official MLB licenses, the players and the teams are fully depicted in the game, so you do not have to struggle with fake names and phoney clubs.

To start off with, you have a variety of game modes to choose from, depending on how long you want your session to last and what do you intend to achieve. As such, you can jump directly into an exhibition match and just choose two teams from the available list, or make some long term plans by playing in the league mode. Some multiplayer modes are available as well, in case you want to play with your network friends.

In order to make sure that everything goes according to plan out on the pitch, you are given the option to change almost everything about the team, including the roster and their positioning on the field. Hence, you have total control over the tactics and strategies that are at your disposal, although you still have to perform well while actually batting/pitching if they are to succeed.

Once the simulation starts and you get to actively control the players, you might find the graphics quality a tad disturbing for the current day and age, but you need to remember the year it was released in. Hence, the blocky landscapes and the poor textures were technological limitations, yet the gameplay itself is still rather fluid and smooth, albeit a lot of improvements can still be made.

All things considered, HardBall 6 was a decent game at its time, but it does not hold too much appeal nowadays. Hence, the game is only worth a try if you are feeling nostalgic and you would enjoy a blast from the past, but not even that may be possible on modern hardware and a newer operating system.
