Guts and Glory

Sometimes video games get too serious to be fun, which is why gamers turn to something more lightweight to take it easy and have a laugh. There are many silly games out there that are perfect for when you just want to have a bit of fun, but few are actually replayable enough to remain enjoyable over and over again.

Guts and Glory is a racing/stunt game in which you have to carefully navigate a series of difficult obstacles courses at the wheel of a variety of vehicles. The fun part is that these vehicles usually have other passengers as well, such as a little boy, or an entire family. Thus, things get pretty hairy once the car you are driving performs an extreme jump stunt from a cliff.

You can also ride a bicycle, which is that much more dangerous when you have to deal with obstacles like saw blades and hooks. The physics engine is actually quite convincing, which makes every accident that much more hilarious. Granted, there’s quite a bit of gore as well, so you need to be ready to deal with a bit of blood and the occasional amputated limb.

The Pre-Alpha version is obviously quite limited when it comes to content, but it still features a variety of levels and challenges to choose from, each one of which is basically a series of checkpoints. Naturally, the goal is to go between these checkpoints as quickly as possible, because the game keeps track of your times and provides you with statistics and records.

The future looks pretty bright as well, because the developer plans on adding more vehicles and more challenges. It would be nice to see a bit more attention to detail when it comes to level design, but then again the action and the stunts should keep you distracted from everything else. On top of that, the controls could use a bit of smoothing as well, since it can be difficult to turn sometimes.

All things considered, Guts and Glory is both fun and challenging at the same time, not to mention hilarious. Thus, if you want to see more of it in the future, you can support the developer by backing the project on Kickstarter.
