Greed

A little creation that fuses several inspirational games into one really neat thing that’s called Greed. It’s an RPG with dungeon exploration, mining, roguelike elements, crafting and of course fighting, all wrapped into nice looking pixel art graphics.
In Greed things are fairly simple. You have a nameless dwarven hero which you must guide through a maze of unconnected caves that are full of monsters and riches. Your goal is to loot as much as you can for as long as you can and in as many places as you can.
The world in Greed is very large in comparison to your character’s size, not to mention that unlike games in which all the chambers of the dungeon are connected, here you will have to blindly dig your way until you find an opening or death.
There is a lot of digging and you’ll often hit walls through which your pickaxe can’t go so there will be a lot of ‘going around this portion and that thing’. At times it can get tedious but there is also a lot of hidden stuff to stumble onto, good stuff. Not to mention that it’s just delightful to dig two minutes, reach a new cave and die a few seconds in because of the number of monsters there, but hey, that’s what procedurally generated levels throw at you.
In Greed things happen really fast when it comes to combat, you need to be light on your feed and precise in attacks. Gameplay is not exceedingly tough but the rings you use for attacks can overheat, health powerups are scarce, potions are rare and monsters, if they are not tough, they have homing projectiles.
Like it was mentioned in the beginning, Greed is a blend of all kinds of flavors, all of which seem be working well together.
On a closing note, Greed is a really good little game. It has a solid gameplay core, combat is fun and the exploration bit works just fine. Although it does need a boost in the atmosphere department and a bit of polishing, it provides a good combination of features we like in many popular games.
