Action-platformers are designed to keep you on edge and provide you with a somewhat simple way to shoot or stab things, unlike the experience you get in a proper shooter. However, they can be just as challenging in some regards, especially since the platforming bits are designed to require patience, precision and fast fingers, which is a combination not many have a good grasp on.

Grave Danger is a 2D platformer with action-packed levels and addictive gameplay mechanics, in which your role is to kill monsters and overcome all sorts of terrible dangers in a weird world. The main attraction is the fact that you can switch between three different characters over the course of the story, and they all have special abilities and unique play styles, making it very easy to stay engaged.

Speaking of which, the story is fairly simple plot-wise, but it’s also quite humorous and well-written. In short, Dante, Malice and Elliot are three outlaws that have to prove their innocence in order to escape the bounty on their heads. The action takes place in a weird world full of monsters and magic, so there’s always something interesting to see or experience along the way.

Besides the usual jump and dash options, your characters can also use a few weapons to deal with the enemies you come across. Wall-jumping is an option as well, although it would seem like the characters stick a bit too much to the walls sometimes. The combat is quick and efficient, thus allowing you to make full use of your speed and reflexes, but it also accommodates slower players, at least in the beginning.

Obviously, the controls are important in a fast-paced platformer such as this one, but thankfully there’s nothing to worry in this case. Everything is smooth and without any kind of input delay, not to mention the fact that you are free to use a controller. Co-op play is available as well, so you can always have a go at the game with your friends. Lastly, the graphics are nothing you haven’t seen before, but the artwork and the animations are gorgeous.

In the end, Grave Danger is a proper platformer in every regard, including gameplay, graphics and the overall atmosphere. There’s always something to do, and the challenge itself is balanced enough to make everyone feel welcomed, regardless of your previous experiences with the genre.
