Grand Ages: Rome Demo
A strategy game that combines city building mechanics with a world map-style campaign #Grand Ages #Strategy game #Rts game #Grand #Ages #Rome
Rome was by far one of the greatest Empires from Europe, especially toward the end of its reign, since it managed to even engulf pieces from the African continent. However, they also made a lot of enemies this way, not to mention the countless tribes of barbarians that saw how rich Rome was, albeit well defended.
Grand Ages: Rome is a city builder that also incorporates some real-time strategy elements, in the sense that you need to battle your foes from time to time in order to conquer new territory and achieve various objectives. Other than that, you main focus is to expand your cities and lay the foundation for a powerful empire, one that hopefully will be yours to control entirely by the end of the game.
As far as the story is concerned, the events are taking place before the golden age of the Roman Empire, which means that the nation is not that powerful yet and it can still fall prey to its neighbors, in case you are not vigilant. After you create and name your character at the start of the game, you also have to choose one of the available families, all of which provide you with a chance to become the leader of the empire, as well as various bonuses when it comes to military or economic strength.
The city building techniques are about as classic as they can get, since the main goal is to provide your citizens with everything they need and monetize the available resources as well. Hence, beside the fact that you have to please the population and offer them enough food and entertainment, you also need to get taxes from them and put them to work when it comes to gathering valuable resources, in order to finance your military efforts.
Speaking of which, the combat system is not exactly top-notch, since it barely features a few symbolic units that supposedly represent your entire army. However, the confrontations are rather interesting, especially since they are in real time and you get to control the units however you see fit. Moreover, the 3D graphics are detailed enough to portray the environments in plenty of detail, although the engine kind of shows its age by now.
City builders are always fun and entertaining, especially when you get to raise an empire from scratch and watch all of your effort result in something as great as Rome. Thus, Grand Ages: Rome is definitely worth your time in case you are a fan of the genre and you enjoy watching over an entire city.
