Bugs and glitches are a normal occurrence in video games, given the fact that it’s very difficult to make a perfect product when the expectations are so high. This is even tougher to achieve in the case of complex games with open worlds, branching storylines and deep character customization. Hence, most developers use bug testers in order to spot most issues before the game is released to the public.

Glitchbuster is a 2D platformer with puzzle elements, in which your role is to find glitches in an upcoming game and fix them as quickly as possible. Naturally, you do not need to be versed in the art of programming, because most of the time you just jump over obstacles and avoid enemies. The glitches are actually part of the gameplay, on the other hand, which means that every level feels unique.

To begin with, every level features some kind of bug or glitch you must work around, such as enemies that teleport randomly every couple of seconds, or a broken gravity system. Besides having to deal with these issues, you also have to overcome classic platformer challenges, including tricky jumps over deadly spikes or fast-paced shooting sequences against tough enemies.

You can unlock various special abilities or items along the way, including a rocket launcher and a shotgun. It’s not always necessary to use weapons in order to overcome enemies, but sometimes it’s a lot easier to blast your way out of trouble. The stages are constantly changing and evolving too, so you rarely feel bored, given the fact that new mechanics are introduced on a regular basis.

As for the controls, the game supports Xbox gamepads, but the input feels a bit weird sometimes. Hence, the jumps are a tad too imprecise and laggy, which is not good news in a fast-paced platformer such as this one. The graphics are not bad at all, even if the retro style can be a turnoff for some players.

In the end, Glitchbuster is not as polished as it could have been, but then again it’s difficult to say whether this is by design or not. Hence, you can certainly have a lot of fun with it, especially if you enjoy tough platformers and you do not mind the weird controls.
