GiAnt Demo
Experience the struggle of an ant trying to survive in an oversized world where everything is either bigger or meaner than you #Adventure game #Puzzle game #Free exploration #Adventure #Ant #Puzzle
Probably one of the main reasons humans have managed to reach the top of the food chain is becase nothing can stomp us into the ground by mistake. It would be considerably more difficult to build an infrastructure if giant creatures would waltz around the world wrecking everything without even feeling a thing. That may sound outlandish and quite impossible, but it’s the everyday life of an ant.
GiAnt is a first-person action-adventure game in which you get to witness first hand just how much of a struggle it is to stay alive when everything is a few hundred times larger than you. The game is not yet finished, so it lacks many features and components, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on in the future, because it’s already pretty exciting.
The story puts you in the role of an ant by the name of Adam, whose task in the colony is to gather sweets. Unfortunately, this a pretty demanding task, because humans are not very keen on throwing away sweets. Granted, ants do not need an entire bowl of ice cream to achieve their purpose, so you can get away with far less. You also have a natural sense that guides you toward food, which is translated into an in-game radar that also warns you of nearby enemies.
Every creature out there is either bigger or meaner than you, which means that running is your main strategy most of the time. Spiders, flies, dogs and even people have it in for you, and they all have specific methods to make your life considerably harder. Being eaten by spiders is pretty gruesome, but being neutralized by a slipper is more embarrassing than anything else.
As of right now, the graphics certainly do not impress, but they are not too bad either. Granted, it would be difficult to render huge objects with a high level of detail without hogging too many resources, but there’s room for improvement anyway. The depth of field creates a nice effect as well, since it seriously limits your ability to examine faraway objects.
All things considered, GiAnt shows promise, but it’s not a complete experience at the moment. However, the foundation is solid enough to build on, and the idea is original enough to be worth your attention.
