GOL Demo

GOL is a first-person game built in the Unreal engine that provides some simple, yet intense gameplay.

GOL is still in its infancy and the demo put forth by the developer is just a proof of concept of what the game could be. The principle of the game and the basic idea make it a little bit like the old Pong, which is actually high praise.

It’s difficult to say if something will be successful or not, but one way to see if your idea has any merit is to make a demo and see how the community will like it. Since this is developed as a local multiplayer game, it might catch on when it’s finished. For now, it’s just a gimmick, and it still needs a lot of work.

Just like Pong, the idea is pretty simple. There are two goal lines and two players. The arena is round, which is a good thing since players can’t grab a hold of the ball and they can just kick it. There is no out, and you can’t lose the ball. The only way to reset the ball is to score, and there is also a time limit.

This is a multiplayer only game, which means that there will have to be at least two players. The screen is divided in half, so it’s only possible to play on the same systems. Ideally, players would need to control each a controller, but it’s possible to play with a controller and a keyboard and mouse.

Since this is built in Unreal, the physics is pretty good, and players won’t have a hard time figuring out what to do and how to hit the ball. The main difference from Pong is that the goal line is up in the air, and players can also lift the ball before shooting. In fact, this is pretty much necessary if you plan on scoring.

The demo is likely to give some sort of an error when you first start it but don’t worry because it’s playable. Keep in mind that this is really early work and have fun.
