GEAR GUNS - Tank Offensive Demo

Fending off an alien invasion would require cooperation between countries from all over the globe, given the fact that the enemy probably won’t care about geopolitical issues. Unlike in most movies that approach the subject, the alien technology would most likely be far too advanced for us to match it with anything of our own, unless we find some kind of vulnerability in their defenses.

GEAR GUNS - Tank Offensive is a third-person shooter in which you control a tank and you are on your own against an entire alien army. The tank in question comes with a variety of different firing modes, ranging from a high-caliber machine gun, to a cannon and even a flamethrower. It’s indicated to switch between them to deal with each situation, but given the early stage of the game at the moment, it doesn’t really matter which one you choose.

There’s not much of a plot to follow, since the alien invasion should be rather self-explanatory. A huge machine is laying waste to cities somewhere in the distance, which means that you are probably going to face it at some point. Right now, all you have to do is drive around a devastated town and kill the enemies that spawn in specific locations, which is not that exciting after the first two or three waves.

There are a few issues with the gameplay mechanics at the moment, some of which are pretty annoying. For starters, the aiming system is a bit off, especially if you are using the cannon. The main objective is also very confusing, because there’s no indication regarding what exactly you should be doing. Some of the enemies do not seem to be doing anything either, other than running into you and dying.

In the technical department, the game looks quite nice, especially since this is an indie production. The environment is not as interesting as it could be, and there are some issues with the optimization, but it’s certainly a good start. The physics are pretty impressive in some cases, and pretty bad in others. You can destroy almost everything, but there are also situations that defy all logic and explanation, mostly due to bugs or glitches.

While GEAR GUNS - Tank Offensive is not exactly GOTY material right now, it could turn into a pretty huge success, at least if the developers keep improving it in every way. Right now, it’s just a rail shooter with aliens, but that can certainly change with a bit of work and dedication.
