Art is expressed by different people in different ways, but most of it has the same purpose, which is to convey a feeling of some sort. Whether you do it in the form of a painting, a piece of music or anything in between, the end result should be something that makes people feel and think about what you want to express, because it’s not really art if everyone sees what they want.
Four Last Things is a point-and-click adventure game in which you play the role of a man whose purpose is to reach a great church in order to confess to his awful sins. The game is designed to be different from everything else out that, and that’s obvious from the first few minutes, especially when it comes to gameplay, interface, and the way the story is being relayed.
Hence, you play as a man who finally reaches the end of a very long journey as he gets closer to the church in question. However, there’s a man who tells him that it’s actually the wrong church and he needs to go back a long way, which is practically a death sentence for the man. On the other hand, it’s possible to commit a fresh batch of sins and visit this church in order to confess to them, which is actually your quest.
Most of your time is spent exploring classic paintings and interacting with the people, which actually sounds more interesting than it actually is. Your job resumes to clicking on stuff and waiting for something to happen, although there’s also a bit of dialog every now and again. Thankfully, at least the humor is pretty bright, otherwise there wouldn’t be too much point to the whole thing.
The graphics are about as basic as you would expect, although they look pretty exciting, thanks to the fact that they are actual paintings. The animations are very interesting to say the least, not to mention funny. As for the soundtrack, there’s not much to tell, but more is planned for the full version of the game.
In the end, Four Last Things has a few nice ideas to work with, but it’s too short and rushed to provide players with a memorable experience. On the other hand, you can support the developer to improve the game by donating to the Kickstarter campaign.
