Flyboys Squadron Demo
A World War I flight simulator that aims to portray the events from the movie with the same name #Fly airplane #Flight simulator #World war #Flyboy #Squadron #Simulator
While the planes were barely just invented prior to the first World War, the nations engaged in the conflict quickly recognized their potential and introduced them on the battlefield, even if some of them were not exactly fit for combat. Hence, they required a lot of skill to control properly and the things got even more difficult whenever they had to shoot at other planes as well.
In case you were not aware, Flyboys Squadron is actually based on the movie with the similar title, which means that the events should portray those seen on the silver screen. Thus, while the game won't follow the story step-by-step, some of the missions might be somewhat familiar, as will the locations themselves and the plane models you get to pilot along the way.
As far as the campaign mode is concerned, there isn't too much to talk about, because the missions are very similar and they basically ask you to bring down every enemy on the map. You start off with a few lessons and tutorials, which aim to teach you the basics of controlling your plane and how to behave whenever you enter into a dogfight.
However, once the first real mission rolls around and the enemies start coming for you, while the autopilot is off, things get a bit more difficult and you don't really have any time to adjust to the mechanics. While the realism is indeed pleasing and welcomed, it can also be incredibly frustrating to simply point the guns toward the other aircraft, not to mention performing evasive maneuvers or flying in a formation.
The graphic engine is very rugged and lackluster, even for its time. Not even the planes themselves received enough care, considering the fact that they barely contain any kind of detail and the textures are very low resolution as well. Once you take a look at the ground, things are not that much better either, especially since the low poly count makes everything look very old.
In the end, the most annoying thing about Flyboys Squadron is the fact that the high difficulty level is all for nothing, considering that the combat is very annoying, the missions are repetitive and they lack depth, while the graphics are very poor. Hence, if you are not a very big fan of classic planes, you'll be better off playing other simulators.
