Cars may be rather difficult to handle, but they cannot hold a candle to planes, which require years practice before you are able to properly fly them. The matters get even more complicated in the case of large and high-tech aircraft, because their cockpits hold basically hundreds of buttons, switches and various other controls that must be kept under close observation during the entire duration of the flight.
Flight Simulator X is the latest installment in the legendary simulation series and it brings forth a major wave of improvements when it comes to the available planes, flight model and the overall realism. Thus, the aircraft now act much closer to reality and you have even more control over the way they behave while they are above the ground.
As always, you can make use of the autopilot function to keep a steady course whenever you have to undertake long flights and you do not want to steer continuously just to maintain the right direction. Naturally, in case you are aboard a small aircraft that must perform stunts at low altitudes, the autopilot can be easily deactivated and you can have total control over the plane.
The game features truly huge maps, with carefully modeled locations taken from satellite images and on-site photography. There is a vast number of airports you can take off from or land on, depending on your preferences, all of which are manually modeled after the real ones and closely designed when it comes to dimensions and track lengths.
From a technical standpoint, the game features outstanding graphic quality, especially in the case of the planes, which are painstakingly modeled to resemble their real counterpart as closely as possible. The scenery is also refined and good-looking, although it kind of loses its quality when you get closer to the ground, but since most of your time will be spent a few thousand feet above it anyway, this flaw shouldn't be too annoying.
In the end, although Flight Simulator X may not actually be too accurate, it does provide you with a good idea about what it means to keep one of these planes up in the air, as well as how difficult can it be to stay on course and land properly on the desired airport.
