As usual, you can compete in the league mode and play entire seasons with the same team, in order to achieve glory and fame by winning every tournament you enter, including international competitions.
As with every new installment, the FIFA series brings new enhancements when it comes to graphics and special effects, all of which are meant to bring significant improvements over the last title. Thus, there are now a lot more player models to represent the most famous individuals, including Thierry Henry, Edgar Davids and Paul Scholes. Every team has its official equipment, both for home and away matches.
The sound has gained a lot more attention as well, with a wide array of new chants and effects to improve the overall experience of the game. The supporters sing and scream whenever their team scores a goal and they express their unhappiness whenever it receives one, while a more violent tackle can cause them to protest the referee's decisions.
In the end, FIFA 2001 remains manages to adhere to the high standards of the series, by providing a realistic and enjoyable experience for both newcomers and the old fans of the franchise. Moreover, the improved AI can now give you a lot more headaches, especially on higher difficulty settings.
