Expert Rifleman is a video game that allows you to simulate firing rifle rounds under very realistic conditions, complete with environmental factors and a complex physics engine to take care of the ballistics aspect. Obviously, this is still a video game that’s prone to mistakes and bugs, so you shouldn’t take everything for granted and try to apply it in the real world, because it just might not work the way you expect it to.

There are a few different gameplay styles to choose from, depending on what you are most comfortable with. As such, you have the possibility to practice on static or dynamic targets, the latter of which are obviously a tad more difficult to hit. Not only that, but a variety of cartridges are available too, each one of which is programmed to respond differently to the environmental conditions.

However, the biggest advantage is the fact that you are free to tweak the settings yourself and make every small adjustment by hand. The environment conditions are customizable as well, which means that everything from the wind speed and its direction, to bore angle and altitude can be changed to fit your requirements. A variety of scopes is included as well, just in case you want to experiment with them.

Visually, the game uses Unity as the graphics engine, which means that it is quite capable to render an impressive amount of detail in the environments. Obviously, how everything looks is much less important than how it behaves. Hence, the physics engine is described as accurate and precise, although inexperienced users probably won’t be able to tell whether that’s true or not.

All things considered, Expert Rifleman is definitely of great help to those who want something to practice with when they cannot experience the real thing, for one reason or another. The plethora of customization options should extend the experience a lot.
