Many sci-fi books and stories tried to explain how humans could ever compete with aliens, especially if the said aliens are much more technologically advanced. Granted, it’s only natural that we should be pretty good at fighting things, given the fact that we do it all the time amongst each other. Thus, a fancy alien ship is probably not going to be a problem for our generous arsenal.

Evil Orbs is an arcade game in which your goal is to destroy aliens using a paddle and balls made out of a special element. It’s very much like Breakout or Arkanoid, except that you have a bit more freedom, although this comes with a price as well, difficulty-wise. However, the overall concept is quite fun and engaging, especially since there are hundreds of levels to keep you busy.

In short, you control a paddle that can be rotated 360 degrees, and the goal is to bounce the ball around in such a way as to destroy all the evil orbs in the level. It’s pretty straightforward at first, but more challenges rise as you manage to move on from one stage to the next, such as the fact that enemies might be protected by shields or various other contraptions.

Arcade games are always more fun when you enjoy them with friends, which is why Evil Orbs has the option for you to cooperate with your friends and tackle the same levels at once, using multiple paddles. You can also play in versus modes in case you want competition, and there is more than enough content to keep the experience fresh for a long time.

As for the graphics, they are nothing to write home about in regards to quality, but at least the assets are colorful and quite amusing. It’s a bit annoying to see featureless backgrounds most of the time, but then again artwork might make it harder to spot the ball sometimes, so maybe it’s better with nothing to distract you. The music is not bad either, even if it has a tendency to get repetitive after a while.

All things considered, Evil Orbs is not a revolutionary game by any means, but it has the right combination of fun and challenge to keep you engaged for a long time. Moreover, the multiplayer features extend the game’s life by a lot as well.
