Eve of Destruction - Redux Demo
Pilot all sorts of vehicles and choose between a variety of classes in this multiplayer-oriented FPS #Vietnam shooter #Multiplayer shooter #First-person shooter #Vietnam #Shooter #Multiplayer
Vietnam games are pretty rare nowadays, probably because the subject has been exhausted one or two decades ago when out of three or four shooters one was about the war against the Vietcong. However, there’s still a lot one can do with the right motivation and the proper set of tools, and there already are a few big productions in the making at the moment.
Eve of Destruction is a first-person shooter that evolved from a Battlefield 1942 mod and managed to create a steady community for itself in time. In essence, it features many of the same mechanics and ideas as Battlefield did, but thanks to the fact that it went standalone, the developers also managed to include a few original ideas and concepts.
You can choose to start playing in single or in multiplayer, depending on what kind of experience you are in the mood for. The single player contains a variety of modes as well, which means that you won’t get bored playing the same thing over and over again. Not only that, but there are plenty of maps and scenarios available as well. The same thing can be said about multiplayer, which features more than enough modes to keep the players busy.
The actual shooting is very important in an FPS, especially in one that encourages multiplayer skirmishes. In the case of Eve of Destruction, it would seem like the game needs a lot more work in this regard, especially when it comes to ballistics. Hence, it feels like your bullets move either too slowly or that the aiming system itself is broken somehow, because it rarely happens that your ammo is spent with purpose, regardless of your skills.
As for the graphics, they are pretty nice overall, at least when it comes to map design and the assets that decorate the environment. However, the character animations and poses are so bad they are funny, which can ruin the experience for some players. Hence, characters run like badly designed dolls, not to mention the fact that they hold their weapons in the most awkward poses possible.
In the end, Eve of Destruction can certainly provide you with a good time, but you need to be willing to get over many inconveniences first. Thus, we can only hope that these issues are going to be fixed in the future, because the game itself has potential.
