Ethos the Game Preview
Enjoy a third-person action game in the style of Dark Souls and make your way through hordes of enemies #Third-person action #Hack and slash #Action game #Action #Adventure #Third-person
Although it’s not difficult to create a game nowadays, it’s certainly just as difficult to create a good one, because developers need to come up with an original and enjoyable concept. On top of that, the gameplay must be smooth and functional as well, not to mention the fact that the public has quite high expectations regarding the graphics quality too.
Ethos the Game is still in the concept phase at the moment, since this is not even a fully-fledged demo, but more of a preview for what’s to come. In essence, it’s a third-person action game in the style of Dark Souls, with a few differences when it comes to gameplay. However, the game is actually part of an even larger idea, one that aims to connect multiple modules and create a huge universe for every type of player out there.
These modules include different game genres and styles as well, including city building, strategy and MMO. However, the preview at hand is solely about the Immortals module, which is a classic hack & slash designed to be visceral and enjoyable. Granted, it’s difficult to say anything about the gameplay at the moment because everything feels rough and unfinished, so it wouldn’t be fair to judge it too harshly.
Playing from a third-person perspective should come naturally to everyone, even if in this case the controls are a tad clunky and unresponsive. The combat is pretty straightforward as well, although that’s probably because not all the mechanics are integrated yet. Hence, it feels a bit too simple and repetitive at the moment, and even rougher than everything else. It’s quite annoying to see your character unable to stop performing a sequence of attacks while hitting nothing but the air, but these things are bound to be fixed until the final version of the game is released.
As for the graphics, Ethos the Game is not yet a looker, even if the cave in which you start playing is quite detailed and nicely lit. However, the environments need to be more open and a lot more innovative, otherwise boredom sets in too quickly. Again, it’s too early to properly judge this aspect, especially since this is but one of the planned modules.
In the end, Ethos the Game might just take the video games industry by surprise, at least if everything turns out the way the developers hope. On the other hand, they need your support as well, so you can back their effort on Kickstarter or vote for the game on Steam Greenlight.
