Although we can probably predict certain technology trends or the rise of population density, it’s not that easy to say what’s going to be here in the next few hundred years, especially in regards to culture. Thus, people have yet to enjoy a long period of time devoid of any wars, given the fact that there’s a big one every couple of decades and a lot of small ones in between.
Eternal Destiny is a strategy and deck building game in which you are offered a glimpse into a weird future, one where the world is split into three races that fight to be the last one standing. The actual game is a combination between a visual novel and something like MTG, but the gameplay is very different in regards to how the cards work and what you need to do.
The three races are demons, Kells and the Cybers, the latter of which are actually futuristic humans with implants that make them more of a sentient computer than actual people. Their war concerns an item by the name of Infinita Sacrament, which is said to have the power to change the world. Naturally, each faction wants to be the one that gets to the artifact first, so the battles get pretty bloody.
As for the actual strategy part, the gameplay is much more interesting than in your regular deck builder game, given the fact that you can approach each situation in a variety of ways. Thus, you have to defeat your enemy by accepting his surrender or by destroying all of his cards, which might actually take some time. On top of that, you can combine creatures during the battle and attack enemy positions in order to prevent him from placing his cards.
There’s a lengthy tutorial to get you started, fortunately, which is great when you consider the fact that there are over five hundred cards and a variety of possible evolutions for each one of them. As for the graphics, the visual novel style is quite engaging, even if most of the artwork is quite static and boring sometimes. Thankfully, at least the atmosphere feels pretty futuristic, albeit not all the time.
All things considered, Eternal Destiny is quite the handful if you are interested in the genre, but it might fail to attract newcomers due to its complexity. On the other hand, it looks colorful enough to be mistaken for something else.
