Escape from Recycling

Puzzle games feature unique gameplay mechanics that challenge you to come up with answers to various riddles, while also making use of various objects to achieve your goals. Sometimes you need portals to move around the levels, while other times you just look at pictures until you find all the hidden objects, but the experience is quite enjoyable most of the time if you like a challenge.

Escape from Recycling is a first-person puzzle game in which you play the role of a robot trying to find a way out of a recycling facility by figuring out how to use the machinery inside and bypass various security measures. Don’t expect too much content or too many original elements, because simplicity is the key word when it comes to the game’s mechanics.

To begin with, your most important task is to open locked doors and move further into the factory, which is achieved by figuring out how to bypass locks, or by simply finding the keys where that is possible. In order to solve these puzzles, most of the time you have to press buttons in order to move things, such as colorful cubes that need to reach a certain place.

The actual story is almost invisible, but thankfully it doesn’t matter that much in this case, because the puzzles steal the show anyway. Although they get repetitive after a while and they are too simple to pose any real challenge, it’s a nice feeling to find the solution to a riddle. The puzzles actually get a bit tougher later on, although that is mostly because sometimes they don’t make much sense.

Lastly, the graphics are Unity-powered and not particularly impressive, but then again such things rarely matter when you have something else to concentrate on. You can tell that the developers actually put some work into the visuals, on the other hand, even if most of the rooms around the factory look almost the same.

When it’s all said and done, Escape from Recycling is far from a great entry in the genre, but it’s fun enough to keep you engaged from start to finish, especially since it’s quite a short experience. Thus, you can give it a shot if you are a puzzle fan.
