Elven Legacy Demo

Games like King's Bounty, Disciples and Heroes of Might and Magic have inspired countless spinoffs and reinterpretations, some of which are quite successful and original in their own way. However, one thing that must be kept untouched is the tactical aspect of the gameplay, since that is why the aforementioned titles remained popular for so long and still have a strong fan base.

Elven Legacy is a turn-based strategy game in which you get to witness the struggle between five distinct races in a classic fantasy setting. Hence, the humans, undead, elves, orcs and dwarves find themselves on the brink of war, as the other races ally themselves against the humans and the orcs rally their forces in order to try and reclaim their lands back from those who took them.

While the story is not exactly original and you can definitely not pay too much attention to it and still be able to finish the game, the gameplay is the element that should capture your curiosity. Just like in a classic TBS, you have to employ the powers of various heroes and units around a variety of maps, as well as increase their abilities by preserving them and winning the confrontations your enter.

To make matters a bit more complex, the game also includes a few role-playing gimmicks that should technically allow you to obtain different results with the same kind of units, depending on how you choose to raise them along the way. Thus, by leveling up certain creatures at the correct time, you can make sure that you are not caught off-guard and you can defend the enemy's attack when it arrives.

However, this can also result in a bit of a struggle, since you cannot always be aware of which units are the most important and you often end up with no chance of winning the mission, despite the good progress until that point. An assortment of design errors can ruin the gameplay sometimes, such as the powerful magic, or the various imbalances between races.

Elven Legacy can prove to be a great TBS, at least until you happen to run into one of the many flaws that affects the gameplay, whether it's the bugs, or the sometimes ridiculous difficulty level. Other than that, you can definitely have a lot of fun with it, especially since you have many tactical options at your disposal and plenty of interesting units to use on the battlefield.
