Dragonpath Demo
A nice roguelike that runs super smooth and has you fighting through both small and large dungeons #Role playing game #Fantasy roguelike #Hack and slash #Roguelike #RPG #Fight
Dragonpath is a surprisingly good indie that seems to fuse equal quantities of role playing, roguelike, and hack and slash gameplay mechanics. It runs smooth, it’s dynamic, and as you descend further into the dungeons, it gets better.
At a first glance, Dragonpath seemed a bit rough around the edges when looking at some of the graphics and HUD design. However, that fades into the background once you start playing and see that the key aspects of the game are rock solid and quite smooth actually.
Typical to roguelikes, you will move from one chamber to another, finding enemies to fight until you reach the big boss that guards the entrance to the next level. As far as difficulty goes, Dragonpath is lightweight at first. The battles seem to be a bit one sided because a few swings of your weapon get the job done and damage to you is minimal. Fortunately, after the first boss, that changes and the moments in which you have to dodge enemy attacks and find the perfect times to counter attack will be crucial and more often.
Once you master that aspect of the game, Dragonpath opens up to be enjoyable. It certainly is a lot better than most of the indie games of this type that I have tried in the last months.
Dragonpath features the great and fun permanent death that is specific to roguelikes. This means that if you die, you start all over again. Your gear sticks with you if you die, so that’s a good thing, and the monsters you slay stay dead when you retrace your steps.
Killing enemies means they will drop an item or a potion, and you can equip them on your hero. A positive note to Dragonpath is that you have several types of weapons, and you can even find some that unlock new skills or have special abilities. Your character also gains experience and levels up.
I’ve been keeping an eye on Dragonpath for a while now and with each update; things have gotten better. Playing it is fun, especially when having to dodge and counter so often. There are plenty of things that can be improved on when it comes to both the graphics and the gameplay but for an indie, this is shaping up very nicely.
