Doors of Silence Demo

Spooky video games have a long history of causing various degrees of distress to the players that are brave enough to try them, ever since computer graphics were decent enough to render a scary face. However, we have come a long way since then, since it is now possible to simulate ultra-realistic environments and much more detailed monster faces to fuel our nightmares.

Doors of Silence is a Unreal Engine 4-powered horror game designed for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, in which your only goal is to survive and get over the inevitable jump scares that await you along the way. There is a creepy story to keep you engaged as well, although you shouldn’t expect a very thick plot in the demo, since it is focused on the actual atmosphere instead.

Granted, the mood is perfect for a horror game, and the whole thing is that much more engaging thanks to the fact that you are closer to the action with the VR headset. While the mechanics are nothing special for this day and age, given the fact that you just walk around and pick up various items, seeing them work from up close is much more exciting.

Besides the fact that the whole thing takes place in some sort of abandoned asylum, you also have to deal with a few strange creatures that call it their home. As such, you are constantly haunted by some kind of monster, and there are a few other jump scares to get your heart rate going.

The graphics are very detailed as well, at least when it comes to textures and the post-processing effects. This is mainly thanks to Unreal Engine 4, but everything really comes together pretty nicely. Unfortunately, the level design is a bit barren at the moment, meaning that there’s not much to look at most of the time, except for a few dark corridors and the usual rusty chairs.

All things considered, Doors of Silence is not there yet, but it has the proper ingredients for a great horror flick. The graphics are gorgeous as well, and the atmosphere is pressing enough to give you nightmares.
