Sometimes we find ourselves suffering and incapable of bearing with the pain, so dark thoughts cloud our minds, whispering to us to do regretful things. That is not the solution, as consequences will have to be faced eventually, even in death, and that is precisely the lesson that Deep Rest tries to teach us.

As far as mechanics go, there isn't much to do in this game except walk, explore and eventually face whatever horrors are in store for you. You play as a young girls who's committed suicide over the tragic loss of her mother to a comma, and now you are in your own personal Hell trying to face whatever it is you deserve. At the same time, you are trying to find your mother and maybe bring her back, while finally finding some solace for yourself, and you will manage to do so throughout the 7 chapters of the game.

Deep Rest abandons the traditional depictions of Hell as a hot fiery place filled with demons and smoldering cauldrons, instead choosing a black and white setting with old movie flickering effects added and an overall Tim Burton flair to it. The childish art style makes all the elements presented to seem even more horrifying, and the soundtrack goes very well with all the visuals, creating an extremely impactful effect for you as the player. One thing worth mentioning is that if you're playing with headphones, or with the speakers at high volume levels, be prepared for the occasional jump-scares and sudden loud noises.

Deep Rest is one of those games that are not meant to be played when you are bored, rather when you are in one of those dark moments in your life and you find yourself on the edge, staring down into the abyss and questioning what to do next.
