Darkfield VR Demo
Switch between different gameplay mechanics in this exciting space sim featuring first-person action, top-down exploration and a cockpit view for dogfights #Space sim #Space vr #Space simulator #Space #Sim #Simulator
Space sims can be quite complex and disorienting for beginners, especially those that aim for realism and provide the players with total control over every aspect of the ship. Whether the game is focused on exploration, combat, or multiple elements at once, immersion is very important, otherwise the long trips become boring. Hence, VR technology is a godsend to the genre.
Darkfield VR is a very intriguing video game that aims to combine multiple points of view and various gameplay mechanics in order to provide the players with a highly dynamic experience. Hence, you’ll be switching from FPS mode to top-down in the span of a few minutes, not to mention the fact that you’ll also get a chance to fly spaceships from a first-person perspective in the cockpit.
The task appears to be monumental, especially if the developers want to include a compelling story into the final product as well, but it’s certainly not impossible. There’s not enough content to form a definite opinion at the moment, but there are both good sides and bad, depending on what’s happening in the game. Thus, as long as the gameplay is improved and the bugs are fixed, this could definitely leave a mark on the industry.
As mentioned before, there are multiple gameplay modes you’ll have to switch between, but they don’t all work as intended right now. Hence, while the first-person perspective is more or less decent, the top-down one is riddled with glitches, and the camera moves rather slowly. On the other hand, the spaceship sim is very addictive and engaging.
Speaking of which, you can only use an Xbox controller in order to play, because the keyboard is not supported at the moment. You’ll also need a pretty powerful PC in order to run the game, although this sneak peek version is not that mesmerizing in this regard. Granted, the graphics are still quite pleasant, especially when it comes to the actual space exploration.
Even if Darkfield VR is not quite there yet, there’s a decent chance it could be a massive success once everything is sorted out and refined. However, a lot of work is involved in the process, and we can only hope the developers stay focused.
