Weddings are special for everyone, which is why it is important to remember them for a long time. Photos are a good way to keep the memory alive over the years, so photographers are quite sought-after whenever a couple decides to get married. However, even the happiest moments can turn ugly in a matter of seconds, especially when ghosts have something to do with it.
Dark Canvas: A Murder Exposed Collector's Edition is a casual adventure game in which your primary goal is to gather evidence and solve puzzles, in order to get to the bottom of the mystery. Hidden object sequences are also part of the deal, but there are some unique gameplay mechanics involved as well. Naturally, you’ll have to make use of your camera, given the fact that you play the role of a photographer.
Story-wise, it all starts when you are called as a wedding photographer to a mansion. Although it all starts fine and dandy, it turns out that the mansion in question is a bit haunted, or at least somewhat creepy. Over the course of a few hours, you must gather evidence and keep photographing the couple as well, which makes for a very dynamic gameplay.
Speaking of gameplay, the camera plays an important role in it, since it can be used to take photos of unusual objects and symbols. These pictures are then stored in your album, where you can review them whenever you need to freshen your memory. Obviously, you are sometimes forced to take pictures as well, such as when the grooms ask you to, or various other family members.
Visually, the same static yet gorgeous environments are present here as well, coupled with the occasional special effect. There are cutscenes you can watch as well, but the animations are still lacking or very simple in most cases. Thankfully, at least the soundtrack and the voice acting are pretty good, which makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
All things considered, Dark Canvas: A Murder Exposed Collector's Edition can be classified as just another puzzle game, but it’s just as fun and intriguing as the others, especially if you are a fan of the genre. The subtle horror elements work wonderfully well with the general atmosphere.
