Multiplayer games need to do a lot of things right in order to maintain their appeal for longer periods of time, so very few titles actually pull it off properly. Replayability is the key, along with the freedom to come up with ingenious strategies on a regular basis and enough content to keep the same situations from coming up too often.
Creature Conflict: The Clan Wars comes with a rather unique idea in the genre, at least as far as the general theme and setting are concerned. At a closer inspection, the inspirations are quite obvious and you can definitely tell that the Worms series had a great influence on the gameplay and the mechanics, even if everything appears to be coated in a fresh layer of paint.
In essence, the main idea is for the players to do everything in their power to destroy each other, using an arsenal of interesting weapons. The action takes place on a variety of small, yet weird planets, which need to be conquered by one player in order for the match to end. Naturally, the environment itself is littered with deadly traps, so moving around is a challenge in itself.
There are multiple game modes as well, including Survival, King of the Hill, and Capture the Totem. They each pose a different kind of challenge, although the underlying idea is the same regardless of the chosen mode. In order to properly enjoy them, on the other hand, you must play them in multiplayer together with your friends, although it is also possible to use the same computer and have a good time in the hot seat mode.
As far as the technical aspect is concerned, the controls are not exactly smooth and they can get annoying after a while. You do not have to react very quickly, though, so you can probably learn to adapt as you go along. Visually, the game uses hard edges and a cartoonish look when it comes to the environments and the characters, but that seems to go along with the theme just fine.
In the end, Creature Conflict: The Clan Wars is not the kind of game that would get picked first under normal circumstances, but it can do the trick if you get bored of everything else. Hence, you definitely can have a good time with it, but the lack of polish is quite obvious, which might make it difficult to enjoy it over longer periods of time.
