Combat Mission: Final Blitzkrieg Demo

There were many tough battles during the second World War, and most of them ended with thousands of casualties on each side. However, the Battle of the Bulge was one of the most important confrontation of the war, especially since it basically decided the whole thing. Naturally, there were multiple individual battles that made up the whole operation.

Combat Mission: Final Blitzkrieg is part of the famous wargame franchise developed by Battlefront and it features the same gameplay mechanics, except that you now get to use them in a different part of the war. As the name clearly implies, this episode is all about the last struggle between the two factions, which means that the key scenarios revolve around the famous Battle of the Bulge.

Not much has changed about the game as a whole, given the fact that the core concepts are the same. This should be good news for returning fans, because you won’t have too much trouble learning your way around. Hence, you can choose between real-time or turn-based action, depending on how you want the action to unfold, and whether you can handle the entire battlefield in real-time.

Although the game is clearly designed for slightly more hardcore wargame fans, that’s no reason to make everything complicated, especially not the interface. While this is not necessarily the case here, there are some functions that are harder to reach, and you may need to have a sitdown with the game’s manual every now and again. On the other hand, the actual battles are much tougher than it is to figure out the interface.

Probably the most disappointing thing about Combat Mission: Final Blitzkrieg is the graphics quality, because the game still looks like it did a decade ago. There are some improvements, but considering the modern trends in the field, the engine is severely sub-par. On the other hand, the graphics make no difference in a wargame, because they’re only there to keep your eyes busy.

In the end, it’s quite obvious that Combat Mission: Final Blitzkrieg is not going to please everyone, but those who know what they are in for should have a great time with the new scenarios. There are some improvements over the previous episodes as well.
