Colored: The Other Dimension Demo
Explore two different worlds and solve a variety of platforming puzzles in this engaging indie game #Puzzle platformer #Puzzle game #Adventure game #Adventure #Platformer #Puzzle
Clever gameplay mechanics go a long way in video games, especially if the development team is small and unable to pump massive amounts of content. Hence, platformers may be rather short and cramped, but they have the potential to keep the players occupied for hours on end. Puzzle games have the same kind of power, except that they are not as alert as platformers.
Colored: The Other Dimension is part puzzle game and part platformer, which means that it should combine the best of two worlds and provide the players with quite the experience. In essence, this could very well be the case, but the demo at hand has some bugs and shortcomings that may hinder your ability to have fun sometimes.
In essence, the whole story revolves around the fact that the main character can travel between dimensions with ease, which allows him to bypass nasty obstacles. With a simple press of a button you can take a glimpse into another world, which is not that different anyway, except for the colors and the occasional out-of-place object. In fact, you’ll sometimes have to take advantage of this in order to advance.
Sometimes the game forces you to use quick reflexes and fast movement in order to navigate past certain obstacles, but it’s not that difficult once you understand the gameplay mechanics. Hence, you often have to switch between dimensions in the middle of a jump, which requires good coordination and a fast hand. On the other hand, the puzzles are not very difficult, which is kind of a bummer if you were expecting a challenge in this regard.
As for the graphics, the artwork is very expressive and enjoyable, especially when there’s color and a background to admire. The overall atmosphere is quite pleasant, but more variety is needed to keep the experience fresh. Speaking of which, there are some bugs to watch out for as well, such as the fact that the levels stop scrolling sideways and you have to restart the game to continue playing.
In the end, Colored: The Other Dimension is not quite there yet, but it could very well get a lot better until the full version is released. Hence, the demo is certainly worth a chance if you are a fan of puzzles and platformers.
