Solve puzzles and help Sam unravel a variety of mysteries in this artsy platformer #Curious Tale #Puzzle game #Adventure game #Clover #Adventure #Puzzle
Adventure games are always more likely to come up with brand new ways to tell a story, because the story is their most important characteristic, after all. Hence, great emphasis is put on the characters and the way the plot evolves over the course of the game, which is why titles like Telltale’s The Walking Dead have managed to captivate the attention of millions of gamers worldwide.
Clover: A Curious Tale is a combination of two genres, because it features both adventure and platformer elements, which come together to form a unique package. On top of that, the artwork itself is worthy of a mention as well, because everything is hand-drawn and some of the environments could very easily be mistaken for actual paintings, if they were to be framed.
The story throws you into the shoes of a young boy by the name of Sam, who happens to live in some sort of kingdom during the medieval period. His mother is killed in an attack on the said kingdom, which sparks the start a great adventure for the youngster in search of answers. Over the course of the plot, many other interesting characters make an appearance and there are multiple endings you can achieve, depending on your actions over the course of the story.
Gameplay-wise, the experience is split into both puzzle-solving sequences that require your concentration, as well as tricky platforming sections that need to be tackled with lightning-fast reflexes. The dialog is also an important aspect, because it can sometimes be the only way to advance the story and find out more about the subject you are interested in.
Speaking of which, it is also worth noting that most of the characters in the game are voice acted, which is rather admirable for an indie production. However, the centerpiece is the visual presentation, because the watercolor paintings that pose as the game’s backgrounds are staggering at times. You can even unlock galleries and admire the said paintings in peace, which is definitely a nice move from the developers.
When it’s all said and done, it is quite sad that Clover: A Curious Tale managed to stay under the radar, despite the fact that it features so many impressive elements. Hence, if you want to be part of a nice story and admire some great artwork while you’re at it, you cannot go wrong by choosing Clover: A Curious Tale.
