Chicku Demo

Chicku is a 2D platformer developed and published by Gatling Goat Studios that lets players control chickens that are trying to escape from an evil farm.

Many of the 2D platformers that claim that are difficult are not really all that hard, and the same is true for some regular games that prove to be much more difficult to finish that the developers have initially stated. On the other hand, the makers of Chicku from Gatling Goat Studios have said right from the start that it won’t be easy to play, and they were right.

One of the ways of making a game challenging for players is by adding artificial obstacles or by messing with the physics engine. Limiting the movement of the characters is another popular method, but with Chicku things are very different.

The game starts cute when you help a chicken come out if its shell. Only two seconds later that chicken lies bloody on the floor. You will soon find out that controlling chickens that can barely fly is an almost impossible task, especially since the levels are filled with things ready to behead escaping chickens.

The levels are really short, and players only have to travel a short distance until the end, but that’s a lot more difficult than you can imagine. The chickens have mass, and that means that they also have inertia. Most of the time they die impaled, sliced, or simply crushed. In fact, when you do finish a level the number of deaths is counted since it’s an important factor.

The developers also give players points for the speed that you’re finishing the levels, but until you master the way the birds are controlled, you will be thankful that you reach the end, let alone get a good score.

Chicku is built on the Unreal Engine, and it shows. The graphics are well above par and the physics engine that governs the flight of the birds is more than adequate.

Chicku is a fun and bloody game that’s much harder than you imagine, but also quite satisfying.
