Chicken Invaders: Cluck of the Dark Side Halloween Edition

There are certain holidays that get everyone around the world excited, such as Christmas, Easter or Halloween. In order to celebrate them, people decorate their houses and sometimes themselves, whether with bright lights and colorful ornaments, or scary masks and creepy dolls. Naturally, other products take advantage of the situation and try to capitalize on the holiday with a special version.

Chicken Invaders: Cluck of the Dark Side Halloween Edition is more or less the same as the original game, except that it now features a few creepy masks and white sheets on top of the chickens. However, even if the changes are mostly cosmetic and do not affect the gameplay too much, it’s still exciting to see the costumes, since it fills you with anticipation for the holiday that’s about to come.

Naturally, the story hasn’t changed all that much, and you are yet again the one in charge of saving the world from the evil chickens trying to destroy it. The only difference is that the said chickens now wear all sorts of creepy masks, albeit more silly than any actual Halloween costumes. There are a couple of other additions as well, namely a few interesting new levels featuring gravestones and similar objects.

Just like in every other shoot ‘em up out there, the goal is to get stronger and avoid being destroyed for as long as you can. There are multiple weapons you can stumble into, although they are actually just different firing modes and special ammunition. However, it is also possible to get more and more damage added, by collecting the power-ups that appear from time to time.

Visually, nothing’s really changed in regards to the graphics engine, but the textures and the animations have been altered to be in tune with the new theme. As such, the chickens are decorated with brand new masks and silly costumes, while some of the levels have been changed as well. Other than that, the controls and the gameplay mechanics are virtually the same as in the original release.

While Chicken Invaders: Cluck of the Dark Side Halloween Edition makes no effort to reinvent itself, the new theme and the silly outfits should make it that much more enjoyable, at least for a while. Hence, if you are a fan of the franchise and you were hoping for something new, this is a great way to get back into it.
