Capsized Demo
A beautifully crafted 2D platformer that uses a simple and classic recipe for this genre #2D platformer #Side scrolling shooter #Alien planet #2D platformer #Capsized #Shooter
Capsized is a classic 2D platformer that hits all the right notes and that shows that you can still make great games in this old genre.
2D platformers are almost as old as the contemporary gaming industry, which means there is a lot of competition. To make matters even more interesting, the 2D platformers make up a very approachable genre for indie developers. There are hundreds of games being launched each year, but only a handful of them are any good. Capsized happens to be one them, even if it didn’t have great marketing.
Sometimes good games fall through cracks, and not everyone finds out that there might be a great game out there that they should play. Capsized has been around for some time, but it still deserves attention, especially since we haven’t seen a game of this quality for some time.
A ship crashes on an alien planet and needs to survive in a really dangerous environment. The design and the artwork used for the environment are the strong suits of this great game, built by artist Jesse McGibney and programmer Lee Vermeulen.
The world feels alive and traitorous. The wildlife is trying to kill you, and there is evidence that another civilization lives or has lived on the planet. The explorer has quite a few tool at his disposal, so he’s not exactly hopeless.
The player starts with a rather powerful energy weapon with infinite ammo, a grappling hook, an energy blast, and an energy leash that can throw objects. Moving through the world the main weapon cab upgraded with a shotgun function, and a jetpack soon becomes available.
The main objective of the game it to reach the end of each level, and that’s not all that difficult, but each level is filled with secret areas that are worth exploring.
The engine used for Capsized runs beautifully, and players with low-end machines will be able to get this running with no problem and at high framerate. The demo is rather short, but the entire game features 12 main missions, and many more enemies and weapons.
