Call of Juarez Multiplayer Demo

Call of Juarez made quite an impression on the public when it came out, since it featured a rather interesting take on the first-person genre and it was one of the few western-themed shooters out there. Even today, it still features a unique blend of shooter mechanics and tactics, although the latter is not always present and not that well implemented anyway.

Thanks to the original approach to the story and the constant switching between the two main characters, the game managed to bring the western genre into the spotlight again, this time in a more interactive environment and with far more bullet time than it is normal. The mechanics were there, however, so one might easily assume that the developers took advantage of them all throughout the game and in every available mode.

In case you are not familiar with the background story, you should know that it all revolves around two brothers who go on a killing spree as they try to clear their name. Although both of them are quick and deadly gunslingers, they have different talents as well, as well as entirely different personalities. However, whether they employ stealth and a whip during gameplay, or they much rather prefer the explosive input of dynamite sticks, the plot evolves pretty linearly either way, so you just have to try and enjoy the ride.

Since the demo at hand only includes the multiplayer part of the game, it is worth noting that it is not as exciting as you might have originally thought. Although the gameplay does not change all that much, the lack of special abilities definitely hurts the experience, coupled with the fact that not a lot of work and creativity went into the maps that are available in the map pool.

Moreover, the game modes are just as dull and unoriginal as in any other casual shooter, which is really a shame, considering all the potential that was practically begging to be used. Despite that, you can still only enjoy the classic deathmatch, capture the flag and a few other modes, which frankly do not manage to keep you interested for more than a few hours. The weapons you can wield depend on the chosen class, but they are certainly nothing out of the ordinary and the classes themselves are boring.

Call of Juarez is definitely a good game in single-player, thanks to the interesting story, solid gameplay and the exquisite graphics engine. However, not a lot of work and attention went into the multiplayer component, which means that you are left with a regular shoot fest, except it all takes place in the wild west.
